Happiness does not exist in yesterday’s memories or tomorrow’s hopes; it exists now.

I cherish the pleasant memories of days gone by, but I refrain from living in the past.

Likewise, I let go of any tendency to try to put off my life until a better day. Tomorrow may never come!

Today is what I have and I gather happiness from every moment of it.

When the day dawns, I am happy to have the chance to live another great day in my life.

I look out the window and notice how beautiful the dew is as it reflects the sunlight.

I hear the birds singing in lovely harmony as they, too, rejoice in the new day.

I relish the pleasant aroma of my morning coffee and enjoy the warmth of the sun when I go out the door to meet whatever adventure life brings me today.

When every day starts this well, how could anything diminish its pleasure?

My day is a parade of wondrous moments and I joyfully receive the pleasure of every single one of them.

My partner, children, flowers, puppies, kittens, butterflies, dessert, sunshine, rain, lunch, and thousands of other good things all bring happiness for their fleeting moments in my life every day.

Even challenges most often bring me something good when I take the time to find the silver lining.

I ask myself, “How can this help me?”

Then I happily take action to move forward, armed with the new knowledge gained from the challenge.

Yes, happiness happens, and it happens in the here and now.

Today, I strive to allow happiness into my life as I live my parade of wondrous moments.

Discovering Happiness in Your Life

Happiness is a choice. It’s true.

You can choose to let life’s circumstances get you down or you can choose to be happy no matter what challenges life brings.

Happiness is already within each of us and we are born to be naturally happy!

For example, have you ever noticed how infectious a baby’s giggle is?

So why is it that, as we get older, we forget where to find happiness within ourselves and, instead, allow outside forces to determine our happiness?

You can determine your own happiness by following these simple strategies:

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.

Cliché, I know, however it’s so true.

You don’t have to let life’s troubles and problems get you down.

Yes, there will always be troubles because no one is perfect, but you can choose your reaction to situations.

Look at the positive side of things and work hard to see the good in people and circumstances.

Find something you love to do and do it.

Do you have a lifelong dream or desire?

If so, start working toward it. Taking baby steps towards a dream or goal will help you feel like you’re accomplishing something.

You’ll find drive and determination to reach that goal when it’s something you love to do.

Do you have a gift or talent you’re not using?

One reason so many people are unhappy is that they’re not doing what they’re called to do with their God-given talents.

Each and every one of us has a purpose in life.

You have natural gifts and talents to help you achieve your purpose, so use your gifts effectively!

When you’re feeling down, don’t wallow in your sorrows alone; do something about it.

Call a friend who you know is positive and cheerful.

Talk about your feelings and listen to their advice.

So often, people allow themselves to go deeper and deeper into self-pity or depression because they think it has to be that way.

The truth is, you don’t have to be sad and you shouldn’t be.

You can decide to be happy. You just have to make up your minds to do so.

Think about all the things you have to be thankful for.

Often you get so caught up in what’s wrong with your life that you forget to look at what’s right and good.

Take a step back and reflect on your life.

How far have you come from, say, six months ago?

Do you have children or family to be thankful for?

Yes, they may not be everything we’d like them to be, but imagine life without them.

Now, be thankful that you have them in your life.

Do you have a job?

Maybe it’s not your dream job, but in today’s economy, those of us who have a job should be thankful for it.

When you’re feeling down, journal your thoughts and feelings.

Often you’ll find that just getting your feelings down on paper will allow you to work through them, helping you to feel better about yourself and your beautiful life!

If you’ve been prone to look at life negatively, then you’ll have to put more effort into seeing and choosing happiness.

But don’t let that stop you from being happy!

You, too, can learn to be happy.

Practice the steps above and train your mind to focus intensely on the positives.

When you feel a negative thought coming on, or your mind gravitates toward the negative, learn to recognize it, stop it in its tracks, and then start thinking happier thoughts.

Starting from this moment onward, make the conscious choice to be happy!

How can choosing to be happy help you become a better person?

How can you bring happiness in your life today?

My life is full of peace and happiness.

My life is full of peace and happiness because I am pursuing my purpose in life.

I am confident that I am on the right path because I use and develop the interests and talents that my Creator has instilled in me.

I have let go of the notion that I should be something I was not created to be.

When I focus on developing my own natural talents, I achieve peace and a sense of harmony.

I am productive because I am working within the perimeters of my own personality.

I admire others and learn from their experiences.

I glean strategies for success and decide whether or not they would suit me.

But I reject the idea that anyone else’s path is more important than my own.

A healthy family, community, or society has a variety of different roles and functions, each one vital to the well-being of the whole.

Some are more visible than others and some tend to garner more applause, but all are equally important.

I let go of the temptation to do things just to receive the applause of others.

Instead, I focus on developing my true self, knowing that this is what makes me most productive and brings me peace and happiness.

Whose approval are you seeking by your actions?

What are you doing to fulfill your purpose in life?

I am happy with myself. I relax and enjoy my life.

Laughter is a common sound around me as I live my life joyfully.

I watch a child in the park running and playing and I hear his genuine laughter.

His mind is undivided as he fully enjoys every moment.

He is truly happy and carefree. I am this child.

It is true that I have responsibilities and a busy life.

Each day, as I look in the mirror while getting ready to face the world, I make a decision.

I choose the kind of day I permit myself to have: today I choose to be happy.

As I travel through my day, come what may, I breathe deeply and smile.

I feel the lighthearted happiness of the child playing in the park.

When I close my eyes, I am there and I am happy.

My life fills me with joy, and I accept this joy as the sustaining part of my life.

Today I allow my spirit to play at the park.

My body may be at work but my spirit is reaching for the trees as I swing higher and higher.

I look into my mirror and I choose to be happy.

I breathe deeply and I make the conscious decision to enjoy life.

Where was your favorite place as a child?

If your day begins to go astray, how can you choose to begin again?
