Stop the Self-Sabotage – How to Love Yourself

Every day, almost everywhere we look we’re bombarded with someone else’s idea of perfection.

We’re told, “You need this,” “You should wear this” and “You need to be this way or that way,” but no one tells us that we’re just fine.

In this society of “whoever has the most toys wins,” no one really does.

A perfect example of self-sabotage is the story Madame Bovary.

It’s a story about a woman who has it all: a loving and devoted husband, wonderful children, a beautiful house, public standing and respect, and a family who loves her dearly.

When she was young, she went to a fancy ball at a count’s home.

For the rest of her life she compared everything to that one night.

Nothing she ever had was enough.

She cheated on her husband and ran them into debt to fill the hole in her life that she, herself, had created.

In the end, she ruined herself and her family all because nothing was ever good enough for her.

We do that to ourselves with negative thinking about our bodies, wanting more things, and trying to make ourselves something we aren’t.

We watch TV and movies and see perfection: the perfect romance and the dashing hero saving the damsel, where everyone is beautiful, heroic and perfect.

That’s fiction. We need to learn to accept ourselves and enjoy the good things we have in our own lives.

That’s reality and the only way to really love one’s self.

Here are a few areas where you may be comparing yourself to others.

You’ll find out how to get away from the “societal norm” so you can be on your way to loving yourself for who you are.

Your Body

Hollywood would have us think that everyone is tanned, skinny, fit and has perfect hair, teeth and skin.

But it’s all a facade! You can’t compare yourself to that imagined picture of beauty.

Your personal beauty comes from inside you.

Write down the things that you love about yourself. If you’re overweight and unhappy about it, then do something!

Change how you eat or get out and walk a little everyday. Not everyone is a supermodel, nor is everyone supposed to be.

Your Career

If you’re stuck in a job you hate, find a new one. If your work is making you physically ill, it’s time to move on.

That misery you feel will carry over to the rest of your life.

Figure out what you love doing and then find a way to get paid to do it.

It’s not easy, and it might not happen overnight, but if you love what you do, your entire life outlook improves.

Your Possessions

We’re bombarded with ads for stuff and they all look so amazing.

We find ourselves wanting more and more things, but do we really need them?

Possessions won’t fill any personal void you have or provide you with true happiness.

What is it you’re missing in your life?

Figure that out and then fill that need, but be honest and realistic with yourself about it.

Your Relationship

If you’re in a healthy relationship and you’re truly in love for several decades, then you’re very blessed.

In reality, as a relationship goes on for months and years, it may not be that whirlwind of romance anymore, and you can’t always expect your partner to be breathtaking.

Yet, no matter what you see on TV, a relationship always takes work and sacrifices.

Think of ways to make your relationship feel new and exciting, and take joy in the fact that you have someone who loves you.

Your Past

The past is just that – the past. You can’t do anything about the past, except learn from it.

You can’t base your life around a singular event no matter how great or terrible it was. All you can do is remember and learn from it.

Don’t let something that happened eat you up and destroy your future.

Instead, think about how you can become better from it, and then make the commitment to move forward.

Love Yourself

Lastly, remember that you are who you are.

Everyone is supposed to be different; it’s what makes you special.

There’s no one in the world who is exactly like you and that makes you special, unique and amazing.

Talk to the people who care about you.

They can help you see yourself the way they do. This can help you understand why they love you and why you should love yourself.

Heed these tips to find a renewed satisfaction in yourself, your loved ones, and your life. You’ll be glad you did!

I free myself of the stress to be everything for my family. They love me for who I am.

I free myself of the need to be a super hero because I know that it is in my family’s best interest for me to teach them to be self-sufficient.

My children need to know that they are not responsible for my happiness.

Yes, they definitely add to it!

But by developing other areas in my life, I free them of the pressure of feeling that my happiness depends upon them.

My children look to me as an example of what it means to be an adult, and they need me to demonstrate the path to a fulfilling life.

By allowing them to see me as a whole person rather than a slave, I am freeing them to be equally self-fulfilled.

My example provides a model of healthy adult living from which they can draw as they branch out and discover their own interests and purposes.

By having them take some responsibility for their own well being in doing age appropriate tasks, I allow them the chance to develop both skills and confidence.

Even if I may be able to do a task more efficiently, I allow them the opportunity for the growth and personal development that comes from stretching themselves.

I recognize the difference between being reliance and being loved.

I know that my children will rely on me less and less the older they get.

This is a good thing.

I set them free to be all they can be, knowing they love me not for what I do for them, but for who I am.

I trust in the love and support of my family.

I trust in the love and support of my family because I know that we are bonded far deeper and more permanently than any mere friendship.

We have a common history and heritage with intertwined memories and dreams.

Our past, present and future are linked with each other.

For these reasons, I make the relationship within my family a priority.

I acknowledge that sometimes we see less than eye-to-eye on matters, yet the fact that we are interconnected for life gives me the security to dig deep and work toward understanding and solutions.

While I sometimes wish I could pick and choose my family as I do my friends, I know that relating to my own kin develops far more depth to my character.

In the end, it’s my family who will stick by me when the going gets tough.

I invest in the valuable bonds of my family relationships by addressing conflict when it arises rather than allowing it to simmer.

I value our relationship far too highly to allow it to be corroded that way.

I also deepen our bonds when I simply spend time with them.

I don’t need an excuse to have dinner with them, go shopping together, break out the board games, or simply sit and chat.

When I am with my family, I can be myself. I treasure that and do whatever I can to build on it.

Finding Your True Soul Mate

Imagine what it could be like if you found your soul mate: walking hand in hand with someone who understands your every thought and mood, perfect days melting into passionate nights, a true love that lasts forever!

Could this happen to you?

Yes, it can!

With a little effort, you can be on the road to finding that special person made just for you.

Many people seem to be under the assumption that their soul mate is suddenly going to fall out of the sky.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the way it works. If you’re yearning to find your soul mate, plan to be ready, prepared, and in the right place at the right time.

Here are some important things to keep in mind in your quest for your soul mate:

1. Figure out what you truly want.

When you’re looking for your one and only, you first need to discover what it is you want from the person you’re looking for, your relationship, and life as a whole.

It’s important to know what’s significant to you and the values you hold dear before you leap into a relationship.

If you don’t know what you’re looking for, how will you ever be able to find it?

This includes knowing yourself well enough to feel confident in your goals, values, and other ideas that are important to you.

Once you clarify your values to yourself, you’ll soon start to notice other people who have the same ideals.

2. Spend time in places your soul mate can be found.

When looking for that special person, be sure to spend time in places where you’re likely to find them.

If you’re involved in a particular hobby you’d like your soul mate to share, consider joining a class or club you’d enjoy.

If you love sports, get active in them.

You can also join your local recreation center and get active in the community.

If you enjoy the great outdoors, be sure you’re spending time walking, hiking, or camping.

3. Skip the nightclubs and bars.

Unless a bar is really where you want to find your soul mate, it’s probably not the best place to be looking for one.

People who spend time in bars and nightclubs aren’t typically looking for a soul mate.

Instead, they’re more likely interested in short-term relationships.

Commitment may not even be part of their vocabulary.

Bar patrons usually haven’t made a commitment to themselves regarding a relationship, let alone thought about someone to spend the rest of their life with!

While you may have the idea your soul mate will find you, it’s important to take action and start looking in the right places.

Sitting at home waiting for Prince Charming or Princess Lovely to knock on your door is not going to get you very far!

Know what you desire from a relationship first and foremost, then spend time getting active in your community doing the things you love to do.

After all, you just never know when that true love magically appears before your eyes!

Five Ways to Nurture a Positive Relationship

A positive relationship can be one of the most wonderful things in the world, while a negative one can turn your life into a disaster!

Do you yearn to cultivate a positive relationship with your partner and help it grow stronger?

Having a positive relationship takes effort from both of you, but you can get it started.

Your partner will surely enjoy the benefits and follow your lead.

Here are five important techniques you can use to nurture your relationship:

1. Give 100%. First and foremost, if you want to build a relationship that’s positive, passionate, and withstanding, you need to give 100% of yourself.

This is one of the most important things for success, not only in your relationships, but life in general.

There’s no “50/50” when it comes to giving in a relationship.

You’ve got to give freely of yourself if it’s going to work. It’s almost impossible to receive from your partner if you don’t give in return.

Remember the golden rule.

When you fully give of yourself, the other person will see the effort you’re making and soon begin to reciprocate with the same type of behavior.

2. Focus on loving your partner. In nurturing a positive relationship, your main focus should be on simply loving your partner.

Show your love in both your words and actions, in all you say and do.

The expression “actions speak louder than words,” is definitely true when it comes to a relationship.

However, your partner still wants to hear you say, “I love you.”

Be generous with compliments and mean what you say.

3. Use charitable acts. The things you do for your partner make a difference in your relationship.

When you love someone, acts of kindness toward him or her come naturally.

No action should be done just because you feel obligated to do it. The things you do for your partner should be done because you want to do them.

Remember, your actions are more important than your words, so use them to help build up a relationship that’s naturally positive.

4. Respect your partner. Always respect your partner in every way to build a lasting and positive relationship with them.

Respect is an important building block of any relationship.

Respect your partner not only in a physical sense, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually as well.

5. Build a strong friendship. Your romantic relationship needs to have the stability and deep roots that come from a strong friendship.

With a meaningful friendship as its basis, your relationship becomes stronger and more lasting.

When you work hard to construct a strong friendship, you can be assured that your relationship is ready to weather whatever life may throw at you in the future.

If your goal is to create a stronger bond with your partner, take the time to think about what it is you’d like from your partner.

Give those things to your partner, and you’ll almost always find the answers you seek about how to create a nurturing relationship.

How to Find a Loving Relationship

Is finding a loving relationship on your mind?

Have you been disappointed in your search?

While it may seem like discovering the type of relationship you long for is beyond your reach, rest assured it’s not impossible.

There are many strategies you can use to help you in your quest for that special someone.

And once you find that extraordinary person who loves you for who you are, your relationship can carry you forward, together, toward your dreams and complete fulfillment!

Here are a few important tips to help you find the loving relationship you seek:

1. Know your own needs.

When looking for a long-term relationship, the first thing you need to do is clarify your own wants and needs.

After all, if you don’t know what you want, how will you recognize it when you find it?

Know who you are, what you want out of life, and what you absolutely don’t want.

Many people go out looking for a relationship with no clue what they really need or want in a companion.

When you’re able to figure out your own desires and know who you truly are, then you’re much more likely to find someone who fulfills those desires.

2. Be firm with your values.

It’s essential to stand up for the values you find important.

If your love interest has completely different core values, then you’re not going to be able to build a strong, loving, and lasting relationship.

You can still have a relationship with someone you disagree with on some issues.

However, the foundational values that you hold dear should be shared.

This could be your religious or political values, or whatever else is important to you.

3. Identify your goals.

What are your goals?

Where do you plan to be in five or ten years?

A relationship where both partners have very different goals will be difficult.

It’s important that you find someone with similar goals so you’re both heading in the same direction.

You want to come closer together as your relationship grows, not be torn apart by wildly differing goals.

For example, discuss important subjects such as children, career aspirations, and family life before jumping into a relationship.

4. Be true to yourself.

This is imperative if you want to find the loving relationship your heart longs for.

You should never settle for someone just because you want to be in a relationship.

Don’t allow your desire to have a loving relationship sell you short of what you really deserve.

If you’re not true to yourself, you’ll come to regret it later.

I love and accept my family as a mother loves her child.

The bond between a mother and her child is stronger than steel.

Mothers love and forgive their children unconditionally.

Such is the love I have for my family.

The treasure hunter in me regularly seeks and finds the embodiment of hidden treasure in the richness of my family.

I love my family because they make my life great.

My family is a soft pillow that I can rest my head on.

I crave time with my family and my heart delights in watching them grow.

I am affectionate with my loved ones.

My supply of hugs and kisses is always fully stocked.

When I speak to my family, I use soft words of admiration because my goal is to nurture their self-esteem.

I take care of my family.

Selflessly, I put their wants even before my own needs.

My family is my gift from my Creator.

Each member of my amazing family has a special place in my heart and a distinctive trait that I adore.

There is nothing my family members can do to lose my love.

My heart toward them is filled with forgiveness, keeping no record of their offenses.

When we have disagreements, we still value each other over our differences.

Just as a mother forgets her children’s misconduct, my family retains no recollection or history of wrongdoings.

I get along with my loved ones and I do my best to ensure that we get along with one another.

My family and I share many traditions that bring us closer together and help us cherish our time with one another.
